ABOUT DEAKIN CREATIVE

WHO WE ARE
Deakin Creative is an affiliation of scholars, artists and teachers committed to building their creative research through the procurement of new projects, the better positioning and communication of the value of creativity in such fields as social innovation, sustainability education, creative place-making and participatory governance. Deakin Creative is an initiative of the Faculty of Arts and Education, Deakin University, and actively seeks research collaborations with other disciplines, institutions, communities, government and non-government agencies.

WHAT WE DO
Deakin Creative individually and collectively auspices and conducts research that locates creativity at the heart of problem solving. It responds to a recognition that current paradigms of development, governance and sustainability fail to engage our creative capacity to self-organise, innovate and nurture. The focus of Deakin Creative is on the production of narratives, designs, programs and other key societal deliverables that enrich all aspects of public decision-making. The dialogue Deakin Creative incubates between the interpretative sciences and the creative arts is aimed at designing more effective research programs, better calibrated  processes and greatly enhanced 'real world' outcomes.

WHAT WE PLAN
Over the next three years Deakin Creative intends to develop a distinctive creative research platform that studies, facilitates and benefits from the translation of invention into innovation. Positioning itself ahead of creative applications (creative industries), it seeks to build creative research programs that incorporate the non-logical, non-linear aspects of invention into new models of social production and environmental design. To this end it looks to negotiate research partnerships both across the university and with targeted external partners. The Deakin Creative Exchange will be a virtual and physical address that fosters new creative networks and a distinctive critical voice examining and creatively applying contemporary transformations in communications to the creative re-narration and revitalisation of communities and their environments. Deliverables will include creative research capacity building, a new masters program for mid-career creatives, creative research programs, externally and jointly-funded research partnerships and sector leadership within three years.
